Updated 2026-07-10 · Government schemes

PM-KISAN (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi) is a central-government income-support scheme that pays eligible Indian farmer families ₹6,000 per year, in three ₹2,000 instalments, directly into their bank account. Here is who qualifies, who is excluded, and exactly how to apply.

What you get

₹6,000 per year, paid as three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months, transferred by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) straight to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. There is no repayment — it is income support, not a loan.

Who is eligible

All landholding farmer families with cultivable land, subject to the exclusions below. Eligibility is based on the family (husband, wife and minor children) as a unit.

Who is excluded

You are generally not eligible if you (or a family member) are:

How to apply

  1. Go to the official portal pmkisan.gov.in and select New Farmer Registration (or visit your nearest Common Service Centre / village revenue officer).
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number, bank account details and land record details.
  3. Complete e-KYC — this is mandatory; without it instalments are held. It can be done by OTP on the portal or biometrically at a CSC.
  4. The local agriculture/revenue office verifies your land records and approves the application.

How to check your status

On pmkisan.gov.in, use Know Your Status / Beneficiary Status and enter your registration number or mobile number to see whether your instalments have been released and whether your e-KYC and land seeding are complete. Most held payments are due to pending e-KYC or a bank-account/Aadhaar mismatch — fix those first.
